Love a Lazy Sunday Sesh – Here’s Where to Go.

The Sunday Session is a rite of passage for most Aussies…an excuse to get together with mates for a lazy afternoon spent drinking alcohol and snacking on pub grub.

There’s nothing better than a sesh in a beer garden, under a market umbrella with live music in the background and an icy cold beer, or glass of wine. Here are six of our favourites to spend your Sunday this weekend:

Gather friends and family and head to Homestead Brewery on Harris Road in Caversham for a chilled out Sunday. Breakfast in a brewery? Sure, why not – or drop by later and enjoy an afternoon in the beer garden, sipping a Homestead Lager and grazing on plates like togarashi spiced squid and beer-battered chips.

Indoors relaxed, industrially chic surrounds are ideal for a lazy lunch next to the shiny Schulz brewing equipment, before picking up a slice of Vincenzo pizza with ham, pork, BBQ sauce and pineapple; indulge yourself with a decadent dessert of salted caramel tart, peanut butter and Channel Island clotted cream if you still have room.

Heritage-listed charm and a lively atmosphere make the Clarendon Arms Hotel on Russell Street in the leafy Tasmanian town of Evandale, a favourite for locals and visitors alike. On Sundays, take to the airy beer garden for live music and deliberate over a menu created from locally sourced produce, alongside great share platters.

Grab a Willie Smith organic apple cider and chow down on a ploughman’s platter of ham, cheddar, housemade pork pie, apple, pickled onion, tomato chutney and country loaf; or perhaps pistachio-crusted Tasmanian salmon, with orange and fennel salad tempts. To finish, don’t go past hot bourbon and raisin pudding, with vanilla bean ice cream.

A natural bush setting provides a stunning backdrop for a Sunday sesh at The Sun Bistro on Bayshore Drive in Byron Bay. This family-friendly hang out lets the little ones roam freely in one of two kids’ play areas, while you relax in the beautiful beer garden; or indoors in the down-to-earth bistro, where timber floors and horizontal ceiling beams inject a little inner-city flair.

Kick things off with a mezze plate of local salami, prosciutto, aged cheddar, pickles, olives, toasted bread and dips, best washed down with a glass of Rhythm & Rhyme Rose; then wrap your hands around a fried chicken burger, with cabbage slaw, chipotle aioli and chips. Steak lovers won’t go past perfectly cooked dry-aged rump, salad, chips and your choice of sauce.

Even your fur babies can enjoy a Sunday session at The Dock on Parkyn Parade in Mooloolaba, complete with doggy treats. Situated on The Wharf and surrounded by bobbing boats, take a seat on the breezy front deck under the shade of white umbrellas and choose from more than 52 beer taps across three bars, or a great range of wine, cocktails and new gin menu.

Did someone say Sunday sesh at The Dock?

Share plates like crispy fried pork belly pieces with salted caramel sauce, or buffalo chicken wings with blue cheese sauce and celery; while from the slow roast smoker, be tempted by pulled peppered brisket, baked potato, creamy house slaw, Southern sauces and char-grilled buttered corn. Finish with a white chocolate cookie and roasted strawberry ice cream sandwich.

Craft beer and quirky pub fare are on offer for your next Sunday session at Dove & Olive on Devonshire Street in Surry Hills. Take to the green courtyard with an icy ale in hand, or be enveloped in a warm, rustic vibe indoors, with hanging leadlight lights, pale wood tables and leather couch seating to chill out on.

Plating up Mod Oz fare with a hint of American comfort, start a lazy Sunday with spicy baked chicken wings and a side of hot sauce; before a Dove classic chicken parmy, with double-smoked ham, basil Napoli sauce, three-cheese mix, slaw and fries. Pie lovers can chow down on braised beef and stout, with mash, mushy pies and gravy.

Baja Cantina on Glebe Point Road in Glebe is the place amigos go for a Sunday taco and tequila session in the beer garden. This lively eatery with unmistakable Mexican character draws crowds with its spice coloured walls, strings of triangle flags and cheery soundtrack, setting the scene to taste Mexican food in true California style

Sunday tacos and tequilas at Baja Cantina.

Say hola to starters of Baja sauteed prawns with tomato, garlic and chipotle chillies, or char-grilled chicken wings and salad; while for the main affair, wrap your hands around a taco supreme with beans, lettuce, salsa, cheese, rice and side salad – best washed down with a passionfruit Margarita. Churros and rich chocolate dipping sauce make for the ideal end to your Sunday session.
