Privacy Overview

The Australian Good Food Guide periodically reviews its Privacy Policy and reserves the right, at its discretion, to modify or remove portions of this policy at any time. The Australian Good Food Guide considers the responsible use of personal information to be of vital importance. The Australian Good Food Guide is committed to ensuring that to the best of our ability we meet all the requirements of the National Privacy Principals and the Privacy Act.

In general, you can visit the Australian Good Food Guide website without revealing any personal information about yourself. However there are times when information will be collected, such as when you register for competitions or memberships, for billing purposes, appraisals or in connection with community postings such as message boards or feedback to us or to receive information from us. This information may include your name, home or business address and e-mail address. Personal information will only be collected when knowingly and voluntarily submitted.

The Australian Good Food Guide may share the information obtained with other organisations with a similar purpose to our own. We will endeavour to limit the use of the information to the purpose for which it was provided.

The Australian Good Food Guide will seek your permission to send you further communications at the time you provide us with your personal information. If at any time after submitting your personal information to The Australian Good Food Guide you would no longer like to receive information from us, simply follow the 'unsubscribe' directions at the end of any e-mail communications you receive.

No attempt will be made to identify users or their browsing activities except in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect server logs. The statistics and log files may be preserved indefinitely and used at any time and in any way necessary to prevent security breaches and to ensure the integrity of the information supplied by The Australian Good Food Guide.

In general on The Australian Good Food Guide websites, IP addresses (a number that is unique to the computer through which you are connected to the internet) are logged to track a user's session while the user remains anonymous. We analyse this data for certain trends and statistics, such as which parts of our site users are visiting and how long they spend there. In general, we do not link your IP addresses to anything personally identifiable to you. In those limited cases where session information is not anonymous, The Australian Good Food Guide will provide notice of the practice and an opportunity to 'opt out'.

When The Australian Good Food Guide receives information about your session or about you, we may also use it for research or to improve our site and the services we offer you.

Google API Services User Data

This section describes how we access, use, store, share and retain data obtained via Google API Services in compliance with the Google API Services User Data Policy.

What Google Data We Access

When you choose to sign in or connect a Google account, we may request limited OAuth scopes strictly necessary to provide features you elect to use:

  • profile – basic account profile (name, avatar URL)
  • email – primary email address for account identification and notifications

We do not request sensitive or restricted scopes unless explicitly required and clearly disclosed to you at consent time.

Purpose of Use
Google user data is used solely to:
  • Create and authenticate your account
  • Display your name and avatar where you expect to see them
  • Send transactional communications (e.g., confirmations, security notices)
  • Prevent fraud and maintain service integrity

We do not use Google user data for advertising personalization, profiling outside the stated purposes, or building marketing audiences.

We adhere to Google's Limited Use requirements. We do not sell, rent, or lease Google user data. We only transfer data to third-party processors necessary to operate our service (e.g., hosting, email delivery) and they are contractually bound to equivalent confidentiality, security, and limited-use obligations.

We store only the minimum Google-derived data required (e.g., persistent user identifier, email, display name, avatar URL). We do not combine Google user data with other personally identifiable data for the purpose of targeted advertising without your explicit consent.

User Consent & Control

You explicitly grant consent during the Google OAuth authorization flow. You may:

  • Revoke our access at any time via your Google Account permissions
  • Request account or data deletion by contacting us
  • Update or correct profile information through your account settings (where available)
Data Retention/Deletion

Google user data is retained only while your account is active or as required for legitimate business, security, legal or compliance purposes. If your account is deleted or remains inactive for 24 months, associated Google data is scheduled for removal within 30 days (or anonymization where legal retention is required).

Upon verified deletion request or revocation that invalidates core functionality, we either remove or irreversibly anonymize related Google user data in active systems within 30 days and in backups within standard backup rotation cycles.

Security Practices

We implement administrative, technical and physical safeguards including:

  • Encrypted transport (TLS) for all Google API interactions
  • Encrypted storage at rest for user identifiers and email addresses
  • Access controls restricted to least-privilege authorized personnel
  • Audit logging and monitoring for suspicious access patterns
  • Periodic review of third-party processors
Sharing, Disclosure & Further Information

We do not disclose Google user data except:

  • With your consent
  • To service providers bound by contractual confidentiality & limited-use terms
  • When required by applicable law, regulation or legal process (after reasonable verification)

We may create aggregated or anonymized analytics that no longer identifies individual users. Such derived data may be used to improve our services. If you revoke access, features relying on Google data may degrade (e.g., simplified login). You may re-authorize at any time. We do not knowingly solicit Google user data from children where local law requires parental consent for such collection. We may update this Google API Services User Data section to remain compliant. Material changes will be highlighted or communicated. Last updated: 05 Nov 2025.
