About The Sun Bistro

A natural bush setting provides a stunning backdrop on Bayshore Drive for The Sun Bistro, a family-friendly hang-out for Byron Bay locals. Let the little ones roam freely in one of two kids' play areas while you relax in the down-to-earth bistro, where timber floors and horizontal ceiling beams inject a little inner-city flair. The Sun offers a collation of Australian wines, including boutique and organic varieties, designed to complement bites like crispy chicken wings with BBQ glaze and blue cheese sauce. For the main event, wrap your hands around a pulled pork burger with slaw, or steak sandwich with caramelised onion, lettuce, tomato, beetroot and mustard aioli; those craving classic bistro fare need only glance at the $15 special meals, for bites like battered flathead and chips.

Normally, I'm exclusively a beef fillet man, but when I tried the rump steak at this restaurant, I was surprised by how tender and full of taste it was. The clincher was the special sauce on the coleslaw, I understand it's been handed down to the chef from generations of his famous hospitality family. Chef Sam Garde is a wonderful asset to this restaurant and I'm certain we will be hearing plenty about his ascendency in the future.
