A Brooklyn-Deli-Inspired Brunch Takeover Is Happening In Bondi

By Marie-Antoinette Issa.

Got Big Apple tastes with a bitty apple budget? Taking inspiration from one of the Empire State’s most iconic brunch bites, Brooklyn Boy Bagels is bringing the flavours of the boroughs to the sands of Bondi.

Teaming up with The Corner House for a full-blown Brooklyn breakfast takeover every Friday to Sunday, 7 am–12 pm, there’s no pricey plane ticket required.

The menu promises more than just bagels, though there will be plenty of those. Think bold flavours, playful twists and a sprinkle of nostalgia with nods to New York delis, New Orleans diners, Persian spices and classic brunch favourites.

Start with the wood-fired challah French toast, a dreamy stack served with whipped coffee mascarpone, pecan pie crumble, citrus-infused strawberries and a generous drizzle of maple syrup.

Dive into New Orleans–style cornbread and sausage, complete with kasundi relish, a sunny-side egg and a tangy lemon yoghurt. A card-carrying member of the leftover-pizza-for-breakfast club? The shakshuka slice straight from the wood-fired oven brings bubbling tomato, pepper and spice, with optional chorizo for those who like a little heat.

Obviously, there are bagel boards and signature Brooklyn Boy Bagels sandwiches - like glorious lox bagels and pastrami Reubens stacked high on rye - just in case you need a classic fix.

The Brooklyn Boy Bagels x The Corner House collab was created in response to Sydney’s increasingly ‘same-same’ avo-centric brunch scene.
"Sydney locals love brunch, that much we know. There’s so much more to experience than Vegemite on toast,” says Michael Siderowitz of Brooklyn Boy Bagels. "Ben (Siderowitz, The Corner House) was on board, so we’ve brought it to life.”

For Michael, the Bondi takeover is a full-circle moment. More than a decade ago, he started baking out of a commercial kitchen in the beachside suburb, learning from traditional bakers and soaking up local support.

From those early days, he popped up in Darlinghurst, sold at markets and eventually opened the Marrickville and Surry Hills stores that have since become Sydney staples for authentic New York bagels.

If you can’t make it to Bondi? Don’t worry! The Marrickville and Surry Hills bakeries are still open, ready to fuel your weekday coffee runs or weekend indulgences.
