Sydney is home to many of Australia’s best restaurants. From pocket cafes to internationally renowned Chefs, Sydney Restaurants are as diverse as they are numerous. Long gone are the days when Sydney gastronomic reputation was all but favourable. Today Sydney’s Restaurants stand proud, attracting a plethora of connoisseurs from around the world in search of the ultimate in culinary inspiration and indulgence; and Sydney does not disappoint!
Numerous award winning restaurants are scattered throughout Sydney and surrounding suburbs providing for a veritable gastronomic paradise. Australian Good Food and Travel Guides Chef Hat’s have been awarded to discerning Chefs around Australia since 1982 (see Our History). These awards are the result of careful deliberation. Inspectors appointed by AGFG dine anonymously. Their reviews and the opinions of the dining public, who generously send in their comments throughout the year, determine these results.You will find a concentration of Sydney’s Awarding Winning Restaurants in and around the City, in the Rocks area, throughout Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and along the Northern Beaches. There are numerous other restaurants that have been awarded Chef Hats, dotted all over Sydney, and as you might expect they all produce exceptional cuisine!
The number of Chef Hats awarded to Sydney Restaurants each year is limited! There are numerous other outstanding Restaurants found right throughout Sydney to suite all occasions and styles; Many of these restaurants you will find featuring on the Australian Good Food & Travel Guide (AGFG) website as Feature Listings.
Australian Chefs are recognised to be among some of the words best. Today many of Australia’s young chefs are highly sort-after and can be found honing their skills in kitchens around the world. Sydney restaurant range from bustling harbour-side hubs to quite suburban eateries, there is not a suburb in Sydney that does not radiate its own distinctive character and culinary individuality. Some more so than others sure; but all have something special to offer.
Sydney’s CBD – a bustling metropolis of cafés, bistros and fine dining establishment of every cuisine and style; Darling Harbour – Right on the water showcasing some of the best restaurants Sydney has to offer; Haymarket – this is Sydney’s China town; Surry Hills – avant-garde, hip and unpredictable dishing up some of Sydneys finest examples of culinary genius; The Rocks – Where Sydney began with spectacular views over the harbour and historical significance, the Rocks remains one of Sydney's great dining and entertainment destinations; Woolloomooloo – exciting and vibrant dining precinct located right on the harbour.
