Olive You Mum! Let’s Celebrate All the Wonderful Women in Our Lives

From the Editor, Leigh O’Connor.

Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 12 is the special time of year when we celebrate our first BFF and the person we always turn to when we need advice – it is also a chance to recognise all the other wonderful women in our lives from wives to great-grandmothers.

Did you know Mother’s Day dates back to Ancient Greece? The roots of our modern celebration go as far back as the Colosseum, when Greeks held an annual Spring festival dedicated to the maternal Goddess Rhea – Mother of the Gods.

How ever you plan on spoiling Mum on her special day we have you covered…from where to indulge in a decadent high tea to Friday fish and chips, we dish up venues that will make her feel loved and treasured.

We also have a great gift guide that goes way beyond breakfast in bed – although that’s always a good way to start Mum’s Day; for the woman who knows her way around the kitchen, we review Natalie Paull’s new cookbook, ‘Beatrice Bakes: Another Slice’ along with serving up three recipes sure to tempt.

Tassal Ambassador, Chef and owner of The Depot Café in Bondi, Guy Turland recently became a first-time Dad with the arrival of his baby girl and is excited to be able to celebrate with his partner Erin on her first Mother’s Day.

"I’ve seen how incredibly well Erin has adjusted to motherhood and while it is so rewarding, it also takes a lot of dedication,” he tells AGFG. "This is why I am all for spoiling Mums – on their special day.

"What better way than ensuring she starts the day with a sleep-in, followed by a delicious breakfast in bed with all her favourite things.”

Erin loves smoked salmon so Guy has created a fantastic recipe that is super easy and super delicious using Tassal Tasmanian salmon, poached eggs, zucchini, ricotta and miso corn fritters…and we have it for you this week.

It’s also Anzac Day this Thursday so let’s not forget all the diggers out there who have proudly served our country and remember them and the sacrifices they have made; we have a roundup of where to go for a two-up session and gunfire breakfast.

Read on and enjoy…
