Harvest Good Food, Good Wine and Good Times!

From the Editor, Leigh O’Connor.

While the term ‘harvest’ usually refers to the time of year when crops are ripe and ready to be gathered, it can also mean the outcome of any effort or series of events.

This week we are ‘harvesting’ good food, good wine and good times as we contemplate the onset of Winter and reflect on an Autumn which seemed to come and go in an instant.

From High Tea destinations to watering holes to whet your whistle, we take you around the country with a wrap up of venues to enjoy the fruits of the harvest – including pawsome cafes where your fur baby is as welcome as you are.

For this week’s Chef Chat, we head to destination restaurant Catalina in Lyne Park with sweeping views of Sydney Harbour and find out why Head Chef and Irish-born Alan O’Keefe still dishes up his Mum’s recipes on the restaurant’s Christmas menu.

Alan also shares a stunning recipe for seared scallops, spanner crab mousse, miso Hollandaise and nori dust that you will want to add to your cooking repertoire.

Iconic Byron Bay restaurant Raes on Wategos is turning 30 this year – what truly sets this venue apart is not just its striking façade and unique architectural design, but the immersive experience if offers to guests.

We talk exclusively to Executive Chef, Jason Saxby about what guests can expect when dining at Raes and also the challenges of taking this experience to sea onboard super yacht, M.Y. Sea Raes. Operating a kitchen at sea presents a unique set of challenges – the main one being, the kitchen moves!

"Meticulous planning and foresight are essential when operating a kitchen at sea. There’s no room for error when you are miles away from the nearest store or supplier, so organisation really is key,” Jason explains.
