Cocktail of the Week from Ella by Minoli Mixologist Joao Santos.

Technically, it’s not drinking alone if the bartender is there!

You know the drill…it’s Friday afternoon and time to relax after a long and stressful work week.

What better way to chill out than with a cocktail at your favourite bar or restaurant. Alternatively, you could take the party home and concoct the perfect drink to usher in the weekend.

Welcome to our Cocktail of the Week series, where each Friday we will highlight a cheeky creation to tantalise tastebuds and set the tone for good times.

Transporting diners to a hidden jungle town in the Hill Country of Sri Lanka, Darwin foodies head to Ella by Minoli on West Lane for flavour-packed fare with flair. This hidden haven tucked away in a quiet, unassuming pocket of the CBD welcomes you with warm hospitality where nothing is an after-thought and stepping through the doors you become family.

Mixologist Joao Santos recommends ordering an Aliya cocktail to pair perfectly with Sri Lankan curries on the menu, such as chicken in rich tamarind coconut gravy, with red spice and steamed rice.

"As our restaurant is a modern Sri Lankan cuisine, this cocktail pairs perfectly with curries,” he explains. "The cocktail profile is sweet and creamy and it comes in an elephant glass.”
