Avoid Dunking Disasters – Five Tips for the Best Dunk on International Biscuit Day.

Did you know one in five biscuit dunks end in a soggy disaster?

As we contemplate a cuppa and dunk for International Biscuit Day on Monday, June 29, the Yorkshire Tea team has developed five steps for the perfect dunk.

According to Yorkshire Tea’s leading expert and Senior Tea Buyer, Suzy Garraghan, there are five top tips for every dunk:

It’s all about the angle – a wide-brimmed cup or mug is best, you should dunk the biscuit horizontally so only one side of the biscuit gets soaked.

Watch the clock – never dunk for less than 2 seconds to ensure the biscuit soaks up some of the tea, but don’t dunk for more than 5 seconds, or you’ll lose it.

Check the temperature – the temperature for dunking will depend on your bickie of choice, chocolate on biscuits will melt fast.

Choose your tea wisely – proper dunking tea needs to be top class such as Yorkshire Tea Gold – the rich character makes it perfect for dunking.

Pick your partner – there is a lot of debate over the perfect dunking partner, Suzy Garraghan favours a gingernut, but it is a very personal choice.

While shortbread, biscotti, chocolate chip, oat and custard cream biscuits are all completely acceptable for dunking options, here are three you need to try:

Gingernuts:

Many believe Gingernuts are entirely reserved for dunking in tea; who eats a dry Gingernut? They are dry and hard without tea, but with a brew they become beautifully chewy.

The flavour means they’re not universally liked, but they are excellent value for the keen dunker, due to being solid enough to be dipped, bitten and dipped again!

Choc Ripple:

When dunking a chocolate digestive biscuit, you come away with rich, melting chocolate hitting your tastebuds. However, it can be quite messy and you risk melting it in your tea a bit. Sticky fingers should not be enough to deter the die-hard tea drinker.

Tim Tams:

The chocolate-covered Tim Tam will leave the dunker with a delicious mix of tea, chocolate and biscuit all at once! There are two ways to dunk the Tim Tam: the original dunking method or the much more fun Tim Tam Slam!
