Aussies love spending time in the sun, yet when it comes to packing food, new research reveals our frustrations.
Australians’ biggest pet peeves include finding sand everywhere, eating soggy sandwiches and food going brown.
With the launch this month of the Shepard avocado season, Australian Avocados has partnered with Chef and TV personality Luke Hines to reveal how Aussies can make the most of their day trips with dishes that will stay fresh all day.
With more than 10,000 beaches along the coast and the warmer weather predicted to stay during Autumn, it's no wonder Australia is a nation obsessed with spending free time relaxing on sandy shores. However, more than 60% of Aussies are frustrated with outdoor cuisine.
Luke has developed three dishes that Aussies can enjoy while making the most of their time outdoors that are easy to prepare, full of nutrients and will stay fresh all day, whatever you have planned.
Luke says: "To ensure your food stays fresh all day long, you need to start with a solid base. My go-to is the Shepard avocado as it’s super versatile and easy to incorporate in breakfast, lunch and dinner.”
It’s also been revealed. Aussies are unaware that Shepard avocados stay green even when ripe and don’t go brown even when cut, which makes them a fantastic choice for packed lunches.
Michael Coulson, a Shepard Avocado grower at Coolio Farms, says: "Shepard avocados are truly unique, versatile and a staple in many meals. Due to their unique nutty flavour and buttery texture, they are the perfect addition to salads, wraps and even smoothies.”
Shepard avocados are 100% Australian-grown and available from early March to late April in most major grocery, independent and local food markets.
