Adelaide Restaurant, Accommodation & Travel Highlights

About Adelaide

Bordering on the enchanted Mt Lofty Ranges, Adelaide is a place to experience the buzz, culture & convenience of a big city without the frustrations. The city centre is surrounded by parklands, charming historic buildings, wide streets, groovy shops, street cafes & restaurants and has a well-deserved reputation for its art & culture. Festivals & events occur with remarkable frequency for a city of Adelaide's size. Your food and wine experience begins with the Adelaide Central Market; the National Wine Centre of Australia and vibrant restaurants boasting some of Australia’s best chefs. You'll find a mix of restaurant strips dotted right across the city - Rundle Street East for alfresco dining; Norwood for great Italian food; Gouger Street for seafood and Asian fare; and anything goes on O'Connell and Melbourne Streets in North Adelaide. Adelaide typically enjoys a warm, dry climate and exudes a pleasant relaxed lifestyle that is unhurried but very cosmopolitan.

When to Visit Adelaide

Adelaide has a temperate climate enjoying mild winters and dry summers. Most rain falls during the winter, whilst summer (particularly inland) can be very hot. Spring, between September – November, averages 12 - 25oC; Summer, between December – February, averages 15 - 29oC; Autumn, between March – May, averages 14 - 25oC; and Winter, between June – August, averages 8 - 17oC. The best time to visit is in summer when it is warm and relatively dry. Spring and autumn are also pleasant with low rainfall, although temperatures get a little cooler.

Getting Around Adelaide

The Adelaide airport is approximately 15-20 minutes drive from the city centre. Busses, and taxis offer a direct link to the city and surrounding suburbs from the main terminal. Getting around Adelaide is easy. Known as the 20 minute city, you can experience it all on a series of easy short walks. The city is also serviced by a variety of public and private transport options including tram, bus, and taxis. Adelaide's public bus network covers three zones, and fares are calculated according to the number of zones travelled. Driving in Adelaide is made a breeze by excellent roads and extensive highway networks, however the CBD can get congested during peak times.
