anything but the norm

I was recently referred to the royal by a friend because their burgers would be right up my ally...They were! So was their coffee! and God, the goulash special!!! If that was the last meal i ever eat thats totally fine by me! The guy that served me was very pleasant. Almost feels like you are friends with them from the moment you enter. I've been back numerous times now and it never disappoints only proves further why you shouldn't bother going anywhere else. Finally, I love the atmosphere and decor. It takes you far away from the concrete jungle that is Sydney. Thanks guys keep up the good work.

Breakfast fit for a King

It is a reigning truth that the ideal morning consists of having the regal freedom to roll drowsily out of a cosy doona onto a sunny balcony and watch the world go by, for as long as you please, enjoying the brunch time bliss of a Baron, no matter what the actual time of day is. No judgement for those who are sovereign over their own lives! Mix that with a subtle European kind of cool, and imagine you are king of your own castle, - and you have The Royal. The quiet hubbub of this leafy Darlinghurst street becomes your dominion to survey; the perfect, petite, palace for a sunny morning. With a royally laid back atmosphere, and a feast of food brought right to your table that tastes so good you feel spoilt, The Royal is the height of cosy, casual, relaxed, indulgence. The secret Crown Jewels of Darlinghurst, The Royal will have you feeling at home - like the gloriously lazy monarch of your own kingdom you are - in no time.

Great Service

The tall slender gentlemen that served me wasn't the best looking chap, but what he lacked in appearance he sure made up for in service. Great place to eat!!!

Great Atmosphere, Great Food

I come to the The Royal maybe every week or so and I have never been disappointed with their quality of service and food (highly recommend the wok Fried eggs) I've swung by for a couple of late night jams with the live music and AMAZING espresso martinis, always a happy customer :)

Fusion of Flavours

I love visiting The Royal. The Art Deco style is inviting and unique and adds to the atmosphere of the cafe. The food itself is delicious, you have classics as well as twists on classics that you wouldn't even have thought of. I love that the owner involves himself in every aspect of the cafe, he serves, makes coffee and cooks. Great value for money considering I can never finish the food and bring friends along to help me finish it

Mini Europe in darlo

The Royal makes you feel like you're in your own super cute outdoor/indoor space on the streets of Berlin, people watching and listening to a good looking guy playing guitar and serenading you with his smooth voice. Meanwhile after hours pass by, and reality kicks in, you remember all the washing that has to be done, assignments that are due tomorrow and you have to leave your beloved table and reminisce on the amazing food and atmosphere. Until next time! Long story short, need to go there! It's amazing

The Royal Darlinghurst Overview

The Royal Darlinghurst remains a favourite eating establishment for locals of Darlinghurst who visit through day and night to dine on delicious offerings. Feel thrown back in time thanks to old world Parisienne touches while zigzagging a path through hanging pot plants, shelves of novels and charming tables and stools where morning visitors catch up on current affairs from a daily newspaper and kick start with a coffee. Opt to begin the day with a joyfully destructive serving of smashed eggs with seasoned avocado and chimichurri on sourdough, or a delightfully sweet house granola with stewed rhubarb, thick and creamy organic yoghurt and fresh berries. If dining for dinner, soak in a European wine bar ambiance over burgers, fresh salads and tapas like wild mushroom pate with sourdough.

The Royal Darlinghurst Menu Sample

Wok fried egg: crispy Asian style fried egg with 12 hour slow roasted pork and sesame slaw served on brioche and topped with sriracha, herbs and fried shallots.
