Feels like home

Every time I come in with friends and family Andy and the crew at THL treat us like family. Hand shakes and hugs all round. We always know this will be the start of some amazing food. First came in for the burgers and have been back many many many times over. This place really is the place to be in Balmain. First has the amazing Quantum burger and loves it but I have a absolute favourite and that is the Aussie. Who can't go past the classic burger with the lot and something I love is fresh pineapple charred over the grill perfect touch that is.

The Hanging Ladder Overview

Nestled in among the boutiques of Balmain’s Darling Street, stumble across The Hanging Ladder and find a pleasant ambiance inside. Feel the lure of Gabriel Coffee aromas as they drift around a split level interior of naturally playful elements, from giant watercolour birds swooping and diving across white walls, to a dainty back courtyard with an edible wall garden of lush herbs, grown both for the aesthetics and use in the kitchen. With gourmet flair, The Hanging Ladder presents much-loved breakfast classics and lunches overflowing with fresh produce. Begin the day with sourdough avocado mash with Spanish onion, fresh parsley, roasted truss cherry tomatoes and lemon, or zip through the afternoon with crispy skin salmon fillet with wasabi avocado, bacon, asparagus, rocket and baby herbs.

Best Known For

Super Breakfast - salad of kale, rocket, spinach, toasted almond, quinoa, avocado with lemon garden herb dressing and poached egg. Lamb sandwich with slow braised lamb, eggplant, roast capsicum, rocket and tzatziki.

  • Ellaslist Reviews the Scrumptious Kid-Friendly Cafe: The Hanging Ladder

I’ve found it! One of those mythical kid-friendly cafes that actually ticks all the boxes. Most of them turn out to be ordinary cafés with a pot of pencils or a box of grimy toys in the corner. But this place is different.
