Wine of the Week from Stanton & Killeen – Sparkling Tempranillo.

Who better to ask what’s trending in the vino world right now than knowledgeable wine buffs at restaurants, bars and wineries around Australia?

Welcome to our ‘Wine of the Week’ series, where we highlight particular wines on the radar of restaurants around the country.

It’s a great time to get fizzical with the festive season fast approaching and what says celebration more than a bottle of bubbles?

Celebrating seven generations and 145 years of family winemaking, the glass is always half full at Stanton & Killeen on Jacks Road in Rutherglen. Today this Victorian business is owned by the mother-daughter team of Wendy and Natasha Killeen, with a focus on Portuguese varieties, flavoursome red wine and award-winning Muscats, Topaques, Tawnys and Vintage Fortifieds.

Visit the cellar door for a bespoke tasting experience, or grab a picnic hamper and head into the vineyard to enjoy your food with a glass of choice and take in the tranquil surrounds.

Wine of the Week from Stanton & Killeen – Sparkling Tempranillo.

Bubbles lovers may not think of a sparkling red for the Christmas table, but there are many drops that are perfect with roast turkey and all the trimmings, like Stanton & Killeen’s Vintage 2021 Sparkling Tempranillo.

The softer tannins and savoury flavours of Tempranillo make for a sparkling wine that is both distinctive and extremely enjoyable. Dark crimson in colour with a lively, fine bead, this bubbles has a generous nose and lovely aromas of fresh blackberries, violets and plums.

On the palate, there is a balance of rich red raspberry and dark cherry that continues throughout, while the fruit flavours and savoury finish are balanced with good structure.

Serve this drop chilled as a pre-dinner drink, or paired with most foods – drink now, or cellar until 2025.
