There’s nothing like an exceptional red wine to set the tone for a memorable meal or evening with friends – you won’t get much better than Eldridge Estate 2018 MV6 Pinot Noir.
As a tribute to retired winemaker David Lloyd, Eldridge has re-released this wine and is offering a 10% discount when using the promo code ‘FarewellDavid’ and ordering online.
A single clone selection, MV6 is a moniker for Mother Vine 6, one of the very early clonal selections of Pinot Noir brought to Australia by James Busby in 1831.
With a lovely soft plum-red colour and garnet hue, swirl this red in a glass and out come lovely aromas of cherries and rose petals, along with a savoury hint of truffles, all framed by a touch of dried orange skin and cinnamon.
On the palate, the Pinot is very fine with flavours of cherries and brambly forest floor berries, finishing with a twang of tight tannins which define this clone. While the finish is firm, there is also a lovely, velvety texture that takes a second and third sip to discover.
In a beautiful drinking window right now, having spent the last five years maturing in the cellar, pair this drop with duck pancakes dipped in hoisin sauce, or aged firm cheese like Comte and Beaufort.
Eldridge Estate is one of the highest vineyards on the Mornington Peninsula, with its position on Arthurs Seat Road in Red Hill. With volcanic red soil, the altitude and position between the two bays create a microclimate that has always produced delicate and elegant Pinot, Chardonnay and Gamay.
Just 90 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, the cellar door offers wine tastings while enjoying stunning views of the vines from a heated and sheltered terrace or indoors; open from Friday to Monday 11am-5pm. Advance bookings are advised – click here to book yours and enjoy a gourmet platter with your wine.
