Wine of the Week – David Hook Wines 2021 Central Ranges Barbera.

Barbera is a red Italian grape variety that is known for its deep colour, full body, low tannins and high levels of acidity.

If you haven’t tried this drop before, we recommend you taste test David Hook Wines 2021 Central Ranges Barbera.

The Piedmont region of northwest Italy is best known for its Barolos – magnificent wines made from the Nebbiolo grapes. These wines can age for decades, have great structure and are generally saved for special occasions.

Deep crimson in colour, with dry cherry and prune aromas, this David Hook red has savoury flavours which dominate the palate, with a firm acidic finish and soft tannins.

Ideal for consumption now, it will cellar for 2-4 years and is a perfect pairing for Italian sausages, pasta, duck and cheese.

Family-owned and operated David Hook Wines, on the corner of Ekerts and Broke Roads in Pokolbin, produces wines with outstanding regional and varietal characters which reflect their place of origin and vintage.

Situated in the heart of the lower Hunter vineyard region, the property was principally a cattle farm until the vineyard was established in 1981.

Planted on the Belford Dome, the low-yielding vineyards are hand-picked and traditionally vinified to produce unique regional wines, which are only released in the best vintage years.

When planting the Pothana vineyard in the early 1980s, David Hook selected sites on the family grazing property he believed would provide consistent quality, individual style, character and integrity.

"We’re proud of our place as a quality Hunter Valley winery and are delighted to welcome you to a tasting at Pothana Winery,” he says.
