Forget the Football: World of Whittaker’s is Bringing the Chocolate Rivalry Down Under

By Marie-Antoinette Issa.

As if claims to a superior rugby team, out-of-this-world Middle Earth landscapes and bragging rights over the creation of pavlova weren’t enough, Aotearoa is going all out again in an attempt to trump Australia in the Best Chocolate game.

Taking over Sydney to launch World of Whittaker’s  - a free, weekend-long celebration of one of New Zealand’s most iconic chocolate brands and one that most Aussies would begrudgingly admit as a firm favourite of their own - in the process.

Taking place at The Apartment at Chinatown Country Club on 222 Clarence Street, the event will run from Saturday, September 13 to Sunday, September 14, between 11 am and 3 pm. Whether you’re a long-time cocoa connoisseur or just someone who likes their chocolate with a side of history, this immersive experience promises something for everyone.

Step inside and you’ll be whisked away on a delicious journey through more than 125 years of Whittaker’s chocolate craftsmanship. From humble beginnings to becoming a multi-generational family business, Whittaker’s heritage is as rich as its chocolate. Guests can explore stories from four generations of chocolate makers, giving you a behind-the-scenes peek at the care, passion and creativity that goes into every block.

Of course, no chocolate event would be complete without tasting. Fortunately, this celebration has you covered. Visitors can indulge in free tastings across the full Whittaker’s range, sampling the flavours that have made the brand a household name. From creamy milk chocolate to decadent dark blocks, there’s something for every palate. It’s almost guilt-free - because while the calories will still count, the cost won’t!

The cherry on top – or rather, the peanut in the slab – is the chance to take home your very own Peanut Slab. This year marks 75 glorious years of the legendary Peanut Slab and Whittaker’s is inviting guests to carve off a piece of history for themselves.

"We’re thrilled to bring the World of Whittaker’s to life in Australia,” says Holly Whittaker, co-COO of Whittaker’s. "It’s a chance for chocolate lovers to connect with our brand, explore our rich heritage and enjoy a selection of our finest blocks, all while taking home their very own Peanut Slab. Crafting quality chocolate has been at the heart of what we do for more than 125 years and we’re excited to share that legacy with Sydneysiders.”

So, mark your calendars, grab your friends and step into a world where New Zealand chocolate reigns supreme. Even if we can’t all claim Russell Crowe as our next-door neighbour, we can credit the Kiwis for coming out on top in the battle of dessert rivalry.
