Flavours, Fire and Flair: Lexy Lights Up Flinders Lane

By Marie-Antoinette Issa.

Among the eclectic mix of art galleries and local fashion labels,  Lexy Restaurant and Bar rises on Melbourne’s Flinders Lane as a new kind of dining experience one where daring Asian flavours meet high-glamour design.

Here, light shimmers across mirrored ceilings, sculptural fixtures frame every angle and brushed silver surfaces catch the eye at every turn. The space hums with energy, inviting guests to move, taste and linger. However, the real magic can be found on the menu, where dishes deliver an experience equal parts immersive, otherworldly and unforgettable.

The latest venture from acclaimed Chef and owner Ken Leung - who first made waves with his brilliant restaurant Cha Ching - pushes his pioneering vision further, creating a space that blends culinary artistry with connection, elegance with edge.

"Lexy is designed to be a sensory journey,” he explains. "From the moment you walk in, every element is meant to captivate and inspire, making each visit feel like an event.”

Designed by Tom Orton and Kim Lai of We Are Humble, Lexy fuses fashion, architecture and sensory drama. Guests are welcomed by tan suede upholstery and a stunning infinity wall while mirrored ceilings and sculptural lighting add a touch of futuristic flair.

The restaurant seats 80, with a private dining enclave tucked away for intimate celebrations and a four-seat Chef’s table giving front-row access to the open kitchen - perfect for those who want to watch culinary magic unfold.

The decor may be high-fashion, but food is at the heart of Lexy’s experience. Here, Head Chef Oak has crafted a menu that draws inspiration from the breadth of Asia, reimagining classics with creativity, soul and a touch of fire.

Cooking over the Josper oven, he infuses dishes with smoky depth, balancing tradition and modernity in every bite. Standout plates include XO rock lobster, truffle mushroom dumplings, seared black cod and Margaret River Wagyu flank while Lexy’s seafood platter is designed for sharing - a true celebration of flavour and conviviality.

The dessert offering is decadent too: a delicate crème brûlée espuma rounds out the meal with the same attention to artistry and texture that defines the kitchen.

"This menu is about storytelling through flavour,” says Oak. "Every dish brings something familiar but with a bold new twist. It’s built to be shared, talked about and remembered.”

The sharing ethos extends across the menu, inviting guests to connect over each carefully curated dish and discover the layers of taste and technique that make Lexy’s food stand out.

Lexy’s bar program is just as inventive. With a zero-waste philosophy at its core, the bar champions seasonality, housemade tinctures, oleos and a meticulous approach to fermentation and clarification. The curated drinks list features inventive cocktails, rare spirits and a rotating selection of sake designed to complement the menu’s bold flavours, making the bar a destination in its own right.

For those seeking a more structured culinary journey, Lexy offers ‘The Lexy Flight Banquet,’ a multi-course set menu showcasing the kitchen’s signature highlights. Weekday diners can also opt for the three-course express lunch menu, offering refined favourites at a more accessible price.

The restaurant caters to private events and group bookings with custom banquet menus, including vegetarian options, ideal for long-table dinners or special celebrations.
