Fiesta Like There’s No Manana – It’s Mexican Week!

By Leigh O’Connor, Editor.

The first time I travelled to Mexico was as a camping trip down the Baja Peninsula from Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas…no mean feat when you are living out of a car and two-person tent!

Back then, a bottle of tequila was cheaper than a bottle of water – need I say more, arriba!

Apart from stunning beaches, fabulous vistas and delicious tacos, I was enamoured with the Mexican spirit; I remember vividly the best taco I have ever eaten, roadside in the middle of the desert at a gas station stall.

Fiesta Like There’s No Manana – It’s Mexican Week!

This week we celebrate not only all things Mexican but everyone’s favourite dip guacamole - with a simple and delicious recipe from SoCal Tacos – for its National Day, explore Mexico’s seven food regions and taco a walk on the wild side at five restaurants where donning a sombrero is more than encouraged.

If you need something to wash it all down, we recommend Kendall Jenner's 818 Tequila which hit Down Under shores recently - find out what is special about this drop plus two cocktail recipes you have to try.

Don’t miss our two Cocktails of the Week from Grinners Dive Bar and Mamasita – including a classic Margarita; while if you need to stock up for your next Mexican fiesta, we have a pantry list that is essential for cooking your faves.

It’s not all about Mexico…it’s also National Linguine Day – find out the biggest hoax in British television when viewers thought spaghetti grew on trees!

Don’t need a wiesn to get your lederhosen on? Oktoberfest kicks off on September 16 and there’s plenty of places to enjoy a stein or two, along with a hearty meal of pork knuckle and sauerkraut.

We also say Bottoms Up to Bottomless Brunch as we highlight venues around the country to linger over a lazy weekend meal with unlimited drinks and fare with flair, along with top tips on ‘A New Way to Bake’  and three recipes from Harrods Head Pastry Chef, Philip Khoury.
