Cocktail of the Week from Deans Lounge Mixologist Jax Jager.

Technically, it’s not drinking alone if the bartender is there!

You know the drill…it’s Friday afternoon and time to relax after a long and stressful work week.

What better way to chill out than with a cocktail at your favourite bar or restaurant? Alternatively, you could take the party home and concoct the perfect drink to usher in the weekend.

Welcome to our Cocktail of the Week series, where each Friday we will highlight a cheeky creation to tantalise tastebuds and set the tone for good times.

A nostalgic lounge bringing back the old-school eclectic charm Kings Cross was renowned for is what you’ll find at Dean’s Lounge on Kellett Street in Potts Point. Settle into this charming, familiar and welcoming cocktail bar, where the retro jukebox tunes are familiar and couches and booths beckon to be filled with a buzz of conversation.

Cocktail of the Week from Deans Lounge Mixologist Jax Jager.

Mixologist Jax Jager shares his recipe for a Killer Spicy Marg – it’s the perfect kick starter with a powerful chilli kick, perfectly balanced between chilli and sour, with a hint of sweetness.

"This cocktail isn’t for the faint-hearted and comes with a warning – it is a 3-chilli star heat rating,” he says. "If you like your margs spicy, then you will love this drink. People come in especially for our rendition of the spicy margarita, which uses a blend of jalapeño and birds eye chillies.

"If you don’t like it too hot, we recommend opting for a Tommy’s version, which is served over ice with no chilli salt rim, so a little less hot.”

So how did the cocktail get its name? It’s a margarita and it’s spice…need we say more?
