My friend and I were food poisoned after eating at Chin Chin
Unfortunately I won’t be returning to Chin Chin after being food poisoned at this establishment.
My friend and I had a booking there on Thursday 20th July. The only dish we shared was the pulled pork pancakes. We went nowhere else before or after having dinner at Chin Chin and we were both sick. My friend’s symptoms started at 1:30am that night, mine began the moment I arrived home. I only started feeling myself again over 1 week later.
When I tried writing to the restaurant about what had happened to my friend and I and to request a phone call from management, I received an email from someone who worked at the restaurant hiding behind a shared inbox (no name was left at the bottom of these emails), berating me with questions that either I had already answered in my initial email, that could’ve been looked up or that were rude and invasive. Nobody called me despite making numerous requests for the call. Nobody showed me any empathy or even checked whether I was alright, and I’m about to start a medical procedure I have been preparing for months, trying to be careful and following a strict dieting regimen. For all I know, they continued to serve that pork to other patrons. The two emails I received from this member of staff honestly felt as though they didn’t believe I could’ve gotten sick from this restaurant. To think I paid a bill that size only to end up sick and in pain for over a week.
To top it off, I hadn’t seen my friend in over 4 years. We were mid conversation, enjoying a long overdue reunion and the waitress rudely interrupted us to ask us to leave because another party was waiting for our table. I expected better from a restaurant like Chin Chin.
We have hosted two corporate events at Chin Chin. I have spoken to management at the company I work at about this incident. We will no longer be booking Chin Chin for future corporate events.
Disappointed by the service
Made a table reservation 2 days back for a friend visiting me after long.
Requested on the call while making a reservation “I need a table not near the entrance, not at the bar counter”
Was made to sit at the bar counter in front of dirty glasses and plates. The manager said they didn’t capture any notes for the reservation
Order a number of big plates, share with your friends and make some noise.
We originally booked the large group table for numbers of 12. Our numbers ending up dropping to 4 and when I notified the restaurant they efficiently came up with an alternative solution of placing us downstairs to enjoy the same menu. When we arrived at the restaurant they pleasantly surprised us by locating us upstairs after a brief 10 minute wait. No queuing, no issues, just efficient customer service. The food was out of this world. We ordered 5 main dishes that were all absolutely special in their own right. Some words to describe this modern asian food was, arty, bold, spicy, refreshing, savory, sweet, interesting and extremely well balanced. We ordered the food and it was at the table 10 minutes later. Every mouthful was delight and I felt like I had to concentrate to appreciate the sophistication of the subtle flavors. Top marks to the chief! You could order literally anything on the menu and be absolutely delighted. Service was also efficient, fast, friendly and I also like being showed the bottle of wine, and having my glass filled at the table, rather then just being brought a glass of wine. A fine dinning touch that goes a long way. Ambiance was amazing. Not to loud, internment, trendy, open, and exclusive. Now I understand why there were queues. When I arrived at the restaurant, I did not.
We enjoyed Chin Chin so much we came back for lunch two days later. A really wonderful array of flavours designed to be shared in a group of like minded people with some innovative dishes as well as wonderful takes on traditional dishes - you have to try the Massaman beef and make sure you get the roti to mop up the gravy! The caramelised pork is also to die for! As a side try the Son in Law Eggs too. Loved this fun place!
oh my god I want to live in this restaurant move right in and just graze on the fantastic food, taste is what i want in my restaurant experience and this wonderful restaurant really delivers, great fun experience also with excellent waiter service to our table.Would like a bit more alcohol in the carafes tried two types and found both tasty but miserly on the grog content but when next visiting Melbourne will make a bee line straight to chin chin
