About Monster Kitchen & Bar

Wandering through the ground floor of Ovolo Nishi on Edinburgh Avenue in Canberra, Monster Kitchen & Bar is preoccupied with serving local and seasonal produce prepared for sharing. Spread across four separate spaces, Monster offers a lounge full of nested areas made of woven rough formed concrete structural lintels, while the Mosaic room houses giant original artworks. Take your seat in the salon and dining rooms, which tell the story of Australian immigration, with a Russian Forager vodka cocktail in hand and share a plate of Spring Bay mussels, fennel, nduja and Prosecco. Delve into Chef's favourites like Glenlea beef sirloin, miso, grilled cabbage and corn, or spiced lamb ribs, curry leaves, chilli jam and lime; finishing sweetly with honey roasted figs, pecan and goats cheese.

Rather expensive food with a confusing menu. Alright environment and convenient eatery if you have a movie (at the Palace cinema) to catch.

Really interesting share plates and a good well-priced beverage list make this worth a visit, especially post-cinema. The ambiance is a bit unusual , like a cross between a hotel lobby (which it kind of is) and an airport departure lounge. Service is friendly and helpful, if still a bit tentative (it's only been open a month). Give it a try for excellent pulled lamb shoulder, a beautiful fish with lots of depth and flavours.
