Second visit so no surprises at the quality of the food, presentation and hospitality of the attentive host. Including us, there was a midweek crowd of a (rolling) thirty approx, so the host did not necessarily have his hands full; however he showed genuine interest in giving us a good dining experience. Let's get the small negative over and done with: Blue Chillies is "fully licensed and therefore do not allow you to bring your own alcohol". Pity. It was an unimaginative and inadequate wine list. Right. Said it - good news: it's all positive from here. Amongst the delicious dishes ordered, some stand-outs were: - ikan bilis (white bait) & onions snap fried in sambal - whitebait & sweet potato fritter with a chilli mint dipping sauce - squid crisp fried in ginger & turmeric - fried koay teow (kuay-tea-ow) with prawns, fishcake, egg & beansprouts - pork ribs wok roasted ribs caramelised in chilli jam - spicy eggplant with dried shrimps & chilli - swordfish? fillets fried with chillies, curry leaves & a fragrant egg floss Most of us could not resist the desserts: - sago gula melaka - with coconut milk & palm sugar syrup - pandan crepes filled with shredded coconut & palm sugar, served with ice cream - home made sticky date pudding In all, at excellent dining experience - at a price, as I said, the cost struck me as being about 30% over what we should have paid. But I conclude that we will be back.
Curry laksa time for us. Soak bits of roti in the juices!
