A selection of baked goods worth stealing can be nabbed from inside this heritage listed building on John Street, fitted out in a funky design with splashes of sunshine yellow livening a spacious area between red brick walls, where friends come to soak in a warm ambiance. Power up and bust out for a day of adventure with a coffee from a boutique local roaster, alongside devouring tasty fare like Moroccan poached eggs on sourdough with feta, avocado and dukkah. Lunchgoers can lock in favourites like a Southern fried chicken burger, before securing a loaf of handcrafted bread, made from premium quality single origin flour that has been left to rise.

A gastronomical delight
The food is always delicious and well presented. Allow some time when you go there because depending how busy they are service can take a little while but the food is worth the wait. Best sourdough bread I have found in the Hunter Valley.


Relaxed and Welcoming
Crooked Mister for brunch on a cold winter's day when we had no power at home did the trick! Definitely a few hours were spent at Blackbird and the coffee kept coming.


We like the fact that food is sourced locally and presented in an interesting and attractive way. Service is excellent with the feeling you are the only people in the restaurant.


Wonderfull Breads
The bread is excellent, the food is good quality and very fresh, the staff are friendly and helpful good value for your money, I recommend it when ever I can.


I work as a dietitian, and see many who struggle with their bread. Caroline has developed and is creating bread which actually is healing guts. Caroline handmakes (no machine) her sourdoughs, using a long slow cold ferment sour dough’s. This is something quite unique as it means the gluten is ripened and metabolized and hence will not give a sore belly or bloat. Caroline is using single origin grains, which is also just as important as its a key aspect as to why we can digest her bread. Caroline buys her grains from the O’Brien family in Coonamble (rye); the Browns of Parkes (for her Organic Spelt) and the Doohans of Tamworth. I eat Caroline's bread daily and I recommend her to all my clients. I believe bread should be apart of a healthy lifestyle. Caroline also offers breakfast and lunch, using locally source and in season produce. Her smoked trout; her quiona and pumpkin salads; her crunchy asparagus with poached free range eggs are all personal favs.


Fantastic place
Exceptional staff service and knowledge in a relaxed and beautiful setting. Your greeted as soon as you walk in the door with a warm smile and welcome. The baked goods and breads are amazing and something sweet or savoury to suit everyone. The coffee and tea are perfect as well as plenty of cold beverages to choose from. Food is of the highest standard. Such a wonderful establishment the area is lucky to have.


Caroline and her team are amazing. The breads here are simply divine - lovingly made sourdoughs with the finest ingredients. All my family are in love with them. Best chai tea I have had too. This is a must visit cafe.
