Incredible food, but frustrating policy — saved by an amazing waiter
I booked a table for eight at Asado two days in advance for a mid-week night. The online platform required a set menu for our group size, with the cheapest option at $95 per person. Knowing some guests preferred a la carte, I called and spoke with a manager, Sally, who was very direct, bordering on rude, who explained their strict, no exemptions policy. She eventually allowed one guest with severe dietary restrictions to be exempt, while the rest would need the set menu, which I accepted.
On the day, that guest canceled, leaving seven of us. Upon arrival, our waiter explained we could either pay 100% of the set price for the missing guest or 50% for a main and dessert. I refused to pay anything at all for the missing guest and threatened bad reviews of the restaurant if they would not acquiesce, plus requested further flexibility so two guests could go a la carte, since we were now under eight. After a long wait, the waiter returned, having checked with management, and allowed no charge for the missing guest and also the adjustment — luckily, the situation was saved, but with a lot of effort on my behalf.
The food itself was phenomenal. The a la carte dishes for two and the set menu for five were absolutely delicious — Asado certainly delivers on taste and quality.
However, the restaurant’s policies and communication need improvement. Our waiter, Ignacio (“Nacho”), was outstanding — friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful. He made the evening enjoyable and is the reason this review isn’t harsher.
Given the inflexible rules, we won’t return for a group of eight or more, though with smaller parties maybe.
Bottom line: Amazing food, frustrating policies, but exceptional service from the waiter, Nacho, saved the day!
