Classic Steak Sandwich



Ingredients

150 g classic straight-cut chips
10 g butter
1 brown onion, thinly sliced
1 Tbs brown sugar
2 tsp balsamic vinegar
2 thick slices sourdough Vienna
1 beef Scotch fillet steak
1 Tbs mayonnaise
2-3 baby cos lettuce leaves
1 small tomato, sliced
2 slices tasty cheddar
Tomato sauce, to serve

Method

Preheat oven to 200 C. Bake the chips following packet directions. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion, sugar and vinegar. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10-12 minutes or until onion softens and caramelises.

Heat a barbeque grill or char-grill on medium-high. Cook the bread for 1 minute each side or until charred. Spray the steak with olive oil spray and season. Cook on the grill for 1-2 minutes each side for medium or until cooked to your liking. Transfer to a plate. Cover with foil and set aside for 5 minutes to rest. Thinly slice.

Place 1 bread slice on a plate. Spread with the mayonnaise. Top with lettuce, steak, tomato, onion mixture and cheddar. Top with the remaining bread slice. Serve with chips and tomato sauce.
