Wonderful food and wine, great hostess, great accommodation!
My husband and I arrived early on a cold but sunny May day, welcomed by the delightful Suzie, our room was ready so up we went. Our room was large, bright and cosy warm. A lovely pub, there was a lovely lounge but our room suited us to lounge around in till dinner-time.
Suzie was a great hostess, very bubbly and friendly. We were the only ones there that night so it felt special. Great value accommodation.
We chose a local bottle of pinot gris which was absolutely delicious.
Justin's food was absolutely delicious, from the Thai Pumpkin soup with Chicken Dumplings, Crispy Sichuan Quail, Duck a l'Orange with Dutch Indo flair to the best ever Chilli & White Chocolate Baklava.
Highly recommend the whole experience!!

I Love the Chefs Table dining concept
Very enjoyable evening meeting new people / new friend connections. Amazing taste and foodie experience.
Wonderful food and evening
3532 km from home for the best meal I can remember. Genius complex flavours, great atmosphere, great company
Gorgeous food, beautifully balanced with great flavours.
Food was stunning, beautifully balanced with absolutely brilliant flavour. Enjoying having a drink with Justin the host and chef after the meal.
Old building with a lot of character, cute rooms with good space. Little ensuite. Good value for the price.
Wonderful meal and hosts
Tomahawk steak and sides - best I have had
Delicious! Tassie produce. Great sense of humour!
My husband and I visited the Wandering Trout for the Steak Night - the star being the 800gm Tomahawk Steak. Didn’t matter what we ate or drank, it all tasted amazing. May well be the best food we’ve ever eaten. There is a huge focus around Tassie produce and small businesses especially regarding breweries and distilleries. Even the Lemonade was by a Tassie maker. Check out their website for an idea of the sense of humour. Love this place so much! It’s our new favourite go to.
Amazing food, lovely staff
Incredible food, lovingly crafted by chef Justin. Amazing what they’re doing, if you’re in the area you should absolutely have dinner here!
Fabulous food - creative and devine
My favourite venue in the Meander Valley, this place is a gem! Foodies heaven with delicious meals beautifully presented. Justin creates some of the best food I've ever tasted!!!
Great selection of locally brewed and crafted beverages. Staff are friendly and attentive.
The decor is welcoming and stylish, great for group gatherings.
Once a month there's live music and a banquet feast that is always phenomenal.
Love the ethos of the Wandering Trout - supporting local, high quality Tasmanian producers.
Great food, great hosts and lovely accomodation
A fabulous food and wine experience and looking forward to returning again We highly recommend and many thanks to our Hosts Justin and Suzie
Food was stunning, beautifully balanced with great flavours. Full marks. And all in a beautiful scenic location!
Best goat I’ve ever eaten.
Great service, loved the music. Will definitely come again
A Great Tasmanian Experience
Super friendly and accommodating staff and a beautifully presented, wonderfully prepared 6 course meal.
Great atmosphere and absolutely fabulous food - one of Tasmania's hidden gems.
Chef Justin is absolutely one of the best chefs we have encountered in Tasmania. You will not leave disappointed by the food or the selection of great tap beer, ciders and spirits which are served up cheerfully by Steph. The rooms in the hotel are well appointed, clean and are very comfortable. We highly recommend this venue.
A Great Local Affair
The food, the music, the brews, the wines, the service; all local, all well done, all different and with an emphasis on quality. Keep up the good work folks. We greatly enjoy having you as our local. For those of you who are from Somewhere Else (or Nowhere Else, local Tasmanian joke), you will like it too. A grand place for a chat, to hear and see something new, to rest a weary head after a long hike or bike.
Lots of Deliciousness and Great Atmosphere
An abundance of delicious food to be paired with in-house beer brewed 5mins up the road. Noticed a strong focus on local supporting local - with all other available drinks being from Tassie!
