In my 25 year old ears in the Hotel industry I have been very fortunate to have been able to experience some fantastic, creative cuisine prepared by some of this countries most respected Chefs, both young and old. When visiting the Southern Great Barrier Reef destination of Agnes Water & the Town of 1770 I was not expecting to experience first class cuisine. I had seen some great reviews on line and decided to dine at Plantaion Bar & Grill located at Lagoons 1770 Resort & Spa. From the moment we arrived the experience was both friendly and professional and my initial impression upon seeing the menu and wine list was that I was in a major city or back on the deck at Lizard Island. The wine list is superb and very well priced offering incredible wines from Australia and further abroad. When our entrees arrived I was again blown away with both the creativity and presentation leaving me excited for the main course. This again exceeded my expectations and again I had to ask myself where I was, is this really in the Town of 1770? The final course of a chocolate tart topped off the evening leaving me stretching at the seams of my trousers. We were so very impressed with Plantation we decided to check out of our accommodation and go and stay at Lagoons 1770 Resort & Spa for the remainder of our short long weekend getaway. Why have we not come this way before I do not know. No more flying to Cairns & Port Douglas for us, rather a half day drive up the trail from Brisbane to this magic destination that seems to have been kept secret for some reason and I now understand why. And the GBR is right here as well? Unbelievable experience, we're sold on it and will most certainly be back!
