Fantastic $15 Gourmet lunches.


Nedgirl chose the Hippo Creek at Hilary's last night, to celebrate her graduation. Dragonlady & I were apprehensive, because the Scarborough Beach one had left us less than impressed.

We got there at opening time, and were immediately seated upstairs. The wait staff were attentive and immediately bought water and took our drinks order. They returned shortly to see if we wanted to order Entree's while we decided on our mains.

For an entree, Dragonlady & I shared Creamy Peri Peri Chicken Livers w crusty bread. This was delicious. The chicken livers were in a rich dark sauce with nice hints of Peri Peri. The crusty bread was lightly toasted and great for soaking up the extra sauce. I recomend this.Nedgirl ordered garlic bread, and it wasn't so good. The bread was nicely soaked in butter but the garlic was extremely light in flavour.

For mains Nedgirl and Dragonlady shared a Hunters Assaghai with the garlic butter. They thoroughly enjoyed it. The meat was nicely cooked (blue) and reasonably tender. The garlic butter was totally different to the garlic bread and had lashings of flavour and dripped down the meat into the bowl of chips below. Beautiful stuff.

I ordered the 220g Stockyard and Rangers valley F1 Wagyu 600 day grain fed +5 marble score. Cooked Blue. The meat was perfectly cooked and OMG it just dissolved on my palate. It was possibly the best steak I have ever had, and I'm old enough to have had a few.The creamy pepper sauce with it was a delight and provided great bursts of pepper as I hit the whole peppercorns in it.The salads were outstanding and probably enough to feed 5 people.

We made a mistake ordering extra salad, because each meal came with it's own small garden salad.

On a closing note, Dragonlady and I each had South African Cider. her the Savannah Dry and for me the Hunters Gold. These were two completely different ciders in flavour and I would say to anyone give them a try.We are already planning our next visit.
