545 Crown Street,Surry Hills NSW
Traditional Indian, with a funky, new twist is turning Masala Theory on Crown Street in Surry Hills into a hipster food haven. Newly open, Masala hits the spot for a leisurely alfresco lunch, or drop in for dinner and take a seat at a mosaic tiled table beneath a neon bicycle and eclectic artwork, depicting Indian maidens on skateboards. Bollywood meets old school curry in a creative menu packed with punchy flavours and innovative presentation, starting with the Three Sisters Chaat of crispy fried spinach, beans, chickpeas, yoghurt, date tamarind and mint chutney. Share a plate of loyola prawn curry - Masala's "school time" prawn curry reminiscent of the old days, accompanied by basmati rice, garlic naan and butter roti, before a cool finish of creamy kulfi ice cream.
Green Goddess (a curry of greens): spinach, broccoli, kale and parsley tempered with home style masala.

Urban List Review
Delicious food, fantastic ambiance, and delightful staff who looked after us well, even with my wacky allergy to gluten.
Spooning Australia Blog Review
MASALA THEORY is easily my current favourite Indian restaurant in Sydney. Even if the food was crap I would love it for the interior kaleidoscope of colours and modern Indian art. As luck would have it the food is as good as the walls. Huge thanks to Yashpal Erda and all the staff for making this experience so delightful and thanks to CoCreate Communications for organising the visit.

In Short: Masala Theory takes you on a trip through India with beautifully presented dishes. Our tip, gather a few buddies and try a sampling of the starters and mains.
Mr & Mrs Romance Review - 5 Restaurant You Must Try
Masala Theory really pushes back a lot of preconceptions of what Indian food is. Taking the over the Surry Hills venue from Red Lantern, this funky hipster curry house looks more like one of the many small bars scattered through the suburb than anything from the subcontinent.
