It's not the weekend without Henri Marc

I have to thank my sister for finding a write-up about Henri Marc a couple of years ago and asking if I'd been there yet. As I love to eat I was stunned that I'd never heard of the place. I've been going there almost weekly since! Today, as we do occasionally, my friend and I shared breakfast. She had her usual large latte and I tried the lychee and vanilla house-made soda. It was perky and refreshing and exactly what I needed. For our first course we had the sautéed broccolini which is served on sourdough smeared with a lentil (I think) paste sprinkled with dukkah and topped with a couple of perfectly poached eggs. Fresh produce and clean flavours combine to make you sigh with contentment. As if that wasn't good enough (it was!), we then shared a waffle. This waffle has ruined us for all other waffles. Perfectly crisp on the outside and so light on the inside it practically melts in your mouth, it comes with just the right amount of maple syrup and a an almost calculated amount of fresh, sliced strawberries. Did I mention that there is ice cream too? Vanilla bean flavour that I'm pretty sure is house made. If you have the opportunity, sit at the bar so you can watch the food prep. The only downside to this is that you can't rewind the show. Alternatively, you can dine at a table - might I suggest either one by a window so you can people watch as you eat, or perhaps near the green wall - and there is always the al fresco option. The service is wonderful and timely, we were in and out in under an hour today, but have lingered in the past. For the quality, ambience and service, the prices are ridiculously reasonable.

Henri Marc Overview

Do yourself a favour when in Penrith and pop into Henri Marc on High Street. With a rustic, industrial interior and hipster, laid back vibe, this café is becoming a regular for locals who want to mellow out over brunch or a long, leisurely lunch. Polished concrete floors, exposed brick and mismatched vintage cutlery and glassware create a funky atmosphere and the ever-evolving seasonal menu presents creativity with flair on every plate. Begin your morning with semolina porridge with sour berries, blueberries and walnuts, or check out the soft-boiled duck’s eggs, sprinkled with sea salt and nestled in an egg carton. Those wanting to share can’t go past the housemade salted caramel and sourdough toast, paired with a Reuben Hills coffee, or perhaps a roast beef and fig plate with lime pickle.
