Frenchs Forest’s very own La Boqueria holds a collection of artisan smallgoods that are Spanish in style but made with prime Australian produce. Developed by Emile Gomez, the team at La Boqueria have created 13 types of specialty smallgoods products, expanding their business space to soon cater for cooking demonstrations and classes to learn about the history of food. So why not start with a taste of what La Boqueria has to offer? Each product has a flavour and texture distinct to each different region of Spain. Cured, smoked and dried meats filled with fresh spices and herbs with intense flavours and lingering aromas are the specialties of La Boqueria. Choose from some of La Boqueria's smoky air dried chorizos or indulge with Spanish meatballs.
Authentic Spanish recipes meet prime Australian produce There may be over seventeen thousand kilometres between Australia and Spain, but just like its Barcelona namesake, La Boqueria Smallgoods is a collection of produce dedicated to authenticity, prime ingredients and of course, flavour. Unlike the iconic La Rambla institution though, this La Boqueria has been created right here in Australia. Developed by Spanish produce importer and proud Catalan, Emile Gomez, he has spent the past eight years carefully selecting the finest jamón ibérico de bellota, richly flavoured mojama, brightly hued paprika and precious Pedro Jimenez vinegars for Australian consumers and restaurants. After two years of testing traditional recipes collected from artisan producers and family connections (because in Spain, it's always who you know), Emile now presents a starting line up of thirteen varieties of smallgoods that combine prime Australian produce with authentic Spanish spices, to become La Boqueria. Already featured in a host of bars, restaurants, hotels and retail outlets around the country, the range includes specialities from each region of Spain including Andaluzian Morcilla, Mallorcan Sobrassada and Papada de Cerdo (pork jowl), as well as killer varieties of Chorizo and Longaniza (cured salami) and more. "On one of my trips back to Spain, I spent time with a supplier, whose family have been making traditional smallgoods for almost 100 years. When I came back, I was consumed with trying to replicate that kind of quality and flavour using fresh Australian ingredients alongside the paprika we bring back. Each year, I travel back to Guijuelo and to Olot, in central Catalunia to learn more about my ancestral smallgoods heritage. I wanted to be able to present that kind of passion and authenticity in a well rounded collection of Spanish smallgoods...and I believe I've done that in La Boqueria." – Emile Gomez.
