Old Chestnut La,Jarrahdale WA
Located a comfortable one hour drive from Perth, along Old Chestnut Lane, is the picturesque Millbrook Winery Restaurant, perched regally above the resident lakes edge in a castle-esque stone building. Enter through arched doors into a sophisticated dining space, with polished timber floors, an open stacked stone fireplace, white table linens and floor to ceiling windows allowing in a flood of natural ambient light. An impressive menu is seasonally influenced by the acre wide heirloom vegetable garden attended to by the Chefs themselves, ensuring only the freshest produce is used. Sample a delicate entrée of vegetable relish, pate and crostini before moving onto a main of sweet and sour vegetables, today’s cut of pork and macadamia nuts with a side glass of Pinot Noir made on site.
Millbrook is a boutique winery and restaurant in the historic town of Jarrahdale in Western Australia, 50 minutes south-east of Perth. The winery is located at the picturesque Chestnut Farm, a property that backs on to the Serpentine River and is nestled among jarrah forests, with stunning vistas of the rolling landscape. The origins of Chestnut Farm date back to the 19th century, when the original owner, Joseph Batt, planted an orchard and the first grapevines in 1865, providing fruit to the local timber-millers in Jarrahdale. In 1996, Chestnut Farm and Millbrook Winery were bought by Peter and Lee Fogarty, marking the family's first entry into the wine business. The Fogartys, together with their children John, Mark and Anna, planted the first vines, making the vineyard a true labour of love. In 2001, construction of the state-of-the-art winery was completed. It is now a stunning home to a modern winemaking facility, barrel halls, a tasting room and a restaurant. Incorporating both local stone and timbers, Millbrook showcases the natural beauty and products of the Perth Hills region.
No Waste Monday Menu: guests enjoy at least three courses of shared food utilising fresh produce from the Millbrook garden left at the end of the busy weekend service. Not only is it excellent value, the menu also showcases the creative abilities of Millbrook's expert chefs, often working with an eclectic list of ingredients.
