Over millions of years a maze of underground passages, streams and caverns has developed. Known to the Aboriginal people for tens of thousands of years, the Wombeyan Caves were re-discovered by Europeans in 1828 when explorers stumbled across a vast opening leading into the amazing depths below. The Caves feature vast caverns adorned with striking and delicate formations in a range of sizes, shapes and textures. These limestone caves are both remarkable and beautiful.
A short, spectacular drive from Sydney, Canberra or Wollongong will bring you to a hidden valley where you'll find the Wombeyan Caves. You can explore the Figtree, Wollondilly, Junction, Kooringa and Mulwaree caves on a variety of guided and self-guided tours.
