About Auldstone Cellars

Rich with history, the wines of Auldstone Cellars have roots dating back to the 1880s when Herceynia Vineyard was first planted with a fruitful crop. Under the current ownership of couple Michael and Nancy Reid in 1987, Auldstone Cellars have since been restored, now in full operation for those visiting the region to enjoy a taste, surrounded by old-world charms. A combination of deep red granite soils and a temperate climate sees the vineyard producing grapes of intense flavour and character, handcrafted into full bodied reds, aromatic ports and mature muscats. Taste an array of varietals, from a citrusy 2014 Riesling to a 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon matured in French oak puncheons with spicy notes. For those in need of a bite to eat, simply visit the cellar café for gourmet delights.

Immaculate Cellar Door, Pure Cuisine. The Next Level in Red Wine
I couldn't believe the garden when I saw it. Immaculate, trained, pruned, tidy, healthy, green, loved. Professional and knowledgeable far beyond my understanding, excellent conversation, patient, organised, welcoming, warm and accommodating. Normally I like a bold wine, so I tried all wine available. The champagne style Shiraz knocks one's socks off, carrying the full flavour of Shiraz with the comforting spritz of bubbles. Not a wine that one should ever pass on. In addition, the Durif is very easy to drink, full of delightful, bold flavour without any bitterness or anything else that comes with unpleasant wine. Worth the drive for the wine, food, scenery and service. Will be returning.

We have been getting our supplies from Michael and Nancy for the last 16 years. Michael is a skilled wine maker and we have been treated to consistently good wines over all this time. Our love is for the big (& medium) bodied reds of this region and particularly wines that have a full, rich middle palate with plenty of fruit characters bolstered with chocolaty oak. Of note are the premium Shiraz, Cab Sav, Durif and of course their legendary Sparkling Shiraz. I should mention the whites, which are also luscious and the Muscats (OMG) and Port, which are a great after dinner stand-by. Nancy is always welcoming at Cellar Door and we have spent many a Summer afternoon outdoors in the shade with good food, great wines and grand company. Only a short detour from the highway and situated very near Booths and Baileys, this little gem remains our favourite winery.

A NE Victorian Gem
A small family owned winery, with a magnificent selection of crafted wines, that punches well above it's weight in an area renouned for some of the best Australian wines! Michael and Nancy are the owners and are always on hand as welcoming hosts; an informative tasting should be followed by a glass of wine and some of Nancy's seasonal plates while sitting outside under the expansive shaded area. A fantastic reward for the trip down the dusty lane!!
