Since 1988, The Vegie Bar has been a cornerstone of Melbourne's plant-based dining scene. Located on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy, this vibrant eatery offers a diverse menu of vegetarian and vegan dishes, including curries, pizzas, burgers, noodles and salads, all crafted from fresh, natural ingredients. Housed in a spacious, industrial-style warehouse, the restaurant features communal tables and a lively atmosphere that appeals to a broad clientele. The Vegie Bar is renowned for generous portions, accommodating various dietary needs with gluten-free and lactose-intolerant options – must-tries are the Burgernator with vegan beef-style patty, lettuce, pickles, tomato, vegan cheddar and special burger sauce, in a toasted bun with rustic potato fries, or potato gnocchi tossed in miso butter.

Vegie Bar is a café/restaurant/bar composed of three dining areas, an outdoor courtyard, and a cosy bar area housed in an old stable built sometime in the late 19th century.
Vegie Bar sees itself as an eating house with a focus on vegetarian and vegan cuisine. Its aim is to provide "healthy, wholesome food at affordable prices in a relaxed and casual environment".
There are 50+ dishes on the menu, plus daily specials that are inspired by cuisines the world over. All dishes are freshly prepared and cooked to order with minimum human involvement from preparation through to cooking, resulting in honest hearty food. Over the last couple of years, Vegie Bar has moved towards providing more gluten free, vegan and raw/living food dishes - but always with a focus on providing tasty and wholesome dishes.
There are freshly squeezed juices and smoothies as well as various health tonics available. Vegie Bar is also fully licensed with a broad selection of organic and biodynamic wines, plus many local and imported beers. The service aims to be friendly, informative and efficient which matches its relaxed surrounds.
Vegie Bar is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is available on weekends.
Original Stir-fry - a generous selection of seasonal vegetables & tofu cooked in garlic & ginger, served with brown rice & a choice of satay, tamari or tahini sauce; or Sienna Pizza – a rich Napoli base of fresh tomato, basil, red wine & garlic topped with caramelised onion, roasted red capsicum, haloumi, wild rocket & lemon.
