Every morsel was a flavour bomb- so lovely
A perfect evening with the shared tasting platter as an entree full of wonderful subtle flavours. The uniqueness of the flavours was fascinating. The slow cooked lamb for main was just a delight in tenderness and flavours.
Amazing, Lee you are a legend! Food and service was outstanding. I can not recommend highly enough!
Lee, the chef met us at the door after ringing last minute to get a booking. She and her staff were very welcoming and that was the start of all I can say, was the most amazing restaurant meal we have had in a very long time. The steak was cooked to perfection and the Pork Belly was simply superb. Lee came out to the table and chatted with us and all I can say is she is absolutely a beautiful soul. Thank you for such an incredible experience, we loved every bite.
Culinary delight in the Silver City
What a great meal at The Old Salt Bush for our last night in Broken Hill. The lamb and barramundi were delicious and cooked to perfection. Well priced for the quality.
Amazing
Absolutely loved The Old Salt Bush.
From the moment you walk in, you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something genuinely special. The atmosphere has real warmth and character, and the staff make you feel welcome without any of the forced hospitality you sometimes get elsewhere.
We had the pork belly and the tasting plate for entrée, then finished with the churros and sticky date pudding for dessert. Every single dish was excellent. Generous, beautifully cooked, full of flavour and incredibly well priced for the quality.
What I loved most is that the restaurant feels completely comfortable in its own identity. It’s not trying to imitate a big city venue. It feels proudly Broken Hill — relaxed, confident, a little rough around the edges in the best possible way, and full of personality.
The chef, the team, the atmosphere and the food were all brilliant.
If you’re in Broken Hill, go. You won’t regret it.
And to the waiter that looked after us … I LOVE YOH
Exceptional food with Australian flair
Word around town is that The Saltbush has the best food in town. While that wouldn't be difficult, going on what else is available in Broken Hill, this restaurant would easily stand out in Melbourne or Sydney. It is housed in a beautiful old stone building, the inside is very nicely renovated in keeping with the age of the building and is complete with white linen table cloths and a lovely atmosphere. The food is an excellent, yes it has slightly higher prices than you would find elsewhere in Broken Hill, but this is fine dining and we found the prices very reasonable. I highly recommend the chicken, asparagus tart. A standout on an excellent menu.
Very happy that we booked for our family reunion, excellent service, great food, very welcoming, heartily recommend!
Top notch
The food, service and ambience are of a very high standard.
It's a real boon for Broken Hill.
Scrumptious
Love dining here. Always a wonderful experience
Exceptional
The little loaves of bread are baked fresh and taste good. The steak was cooked to perfection and we also had the chicken. Best classy meal in town.
Superb dining experience in every way. Exceptional food, great selection of wines, excellent service, beautiful setting all combine to provide a satisfying, first rate culinary experience. The menu offerings are very special with an array of unique dishes infused with local bush flavours, created with flair and thoughtfully presented by the highly qualified Chef Lee Cecchin.

Fabulous evening with interesting and delicious food
Chef Lee provides a great dining experience in a lovely space. The menu is interesting, the food is delicious and the wine list good and fairly priced.
We recently held a family celebration in the private dining room and it was wonderful. Lee and her staff went beyond the usual expectations to make it really special.
Terrific experience
Coming off the Indian Pacific train trip, and experiencing some wonderful food with great staff members. Loved your story and thank you ????
Exceptional service and food
The Old Salt Bush is a surprising gem in Broken Hill.
The food is exceptional. Great use of traditional indigenous ingredients. Staff and ambience of the restaurant were fantastic. So nice to meet and chat to the chef at the end of our meal. A special way to celebrate a birthday. If you are in Broken Hill make sure you book into The Old Salt Bush!
Beautiful food, great service thank you for a memorable evening.
Delicious contemporary cuisine & friendly service
Broken Hill has been quite the surprise to us. Amongst the friendliest people & a town with multiple dimensions of arts & tourism operating beside the mining industry. The Old Saltbush fits perfectly into this mix of old & new world changes in the silver city. The bush tomato roulade was rich but not overpowering. The Atlantic salmon on zucchini, broccoli & mash was perfectly prepared. The mixed grill bush plate with caramelised onion offered really good array of flavours. Throw in a well priced wine list & this was a terrific experience from Lee & her team. If in town make sure to book ahead!
Great Food and atmosphere
