Delightful Surprise
On our way through the city of Goulburn we decided call into the Fireside Inn for lunch, seeking a hearty and warming meal during a cold winters day. We were greeted with a friendly waitress and a roaring open fireplace, the setting was quaint and styled like a large English pub. We decided to select blackboard lunch specials, a rack of pork with roast vegetables with a peach and quince demi-glaze and stuffed spiced leg of lamb set on a mound of mashed turnip and potato, with tress tomatoes and spinach leaves drizzled with a sticky balsamic vinegarette. Both meals were of Sydney's best five star restaurant quality and nearly a third of the price. We followed with two warm hearty winter deserts, a fruit crumble and a sticky date pudding with cream. The bill arrived $24 each for a two course meal, surprised we asked the waitress if this was correct! Needless to say we left a gracious tip and plan to return and sample more f the chefs selections.
