Delicious dinner. Scenic view.
Rustica was our choice for a swish dinner in Newcastle. The food was scrumptious and the portions very generous. Service was friendly, helpful and unobtrusive. Situated opposite Newcastle Beach offered a magnificent backdrop to our dining experience. Different groups and age ranges made for a lively atmosphere. Definitely recommend visiting Rustica.

I decided to visit Rustica for a second time after an average first visit some months ago. I thought I'd give them another chance, unfortunately everything about the night was terrible. When you first walk in, the acoustics hit you in the face. The restaurant is buzzing with a lively atmosphere, however this makes it difficult to hold a conversation unless you've had a few drinks beforehand. The service is slow, inattentive and insincere. I rang beforehand to confirm that the venue allowed BYO and was informed that they are fully licensed but they would only accept BYO for a vintage wine and would rather you chose from their inadequate wine selection. For an entree, I ordered seared scallops. They were quite obviously frozen, only caramelised on one side, undercooked and not hot. For a main I had confit duck. The first thing I noticed was that the duck had been microwaved. There was no steam coming from the maryland until you cut it open, and then it was like a nuclear powerplant. Overall, the experience was not enjoyable. The only rewarding aspect of this evening will be the Qantas Frequent Flyer points I hope to receive from booking on the Qantas website.
