Dining at River in Brunswick Heads was an incredible experience from start to finish. Every bite was a true taste sensation, showcasing the very best of locally sourced ingredients thoughtfully inspired by Indigenous culture.
We began with the flatbread accompanied by roasted garlic, which set the tone for the meal with its rich, comforting flavours. The Bloody Mary spanner crab was a standout—fresh, vibrant, and expertly balanced. The succulent lamb was cooked to perfection, tender and bursting with flavour. A beautifully roasted radish paired with saltbush asparagus and a luscious Béarnaise sauce provided a delightful contrast, reflecting creative yet respectful culinary artistry.
To finish, the strawberry pannacotta was a refreshing and elegant dessert, rounding out the meal deliciously.
River offers not just a meal, but a memorable journey through taste and culture, making it a must-visit for any food lover in Brunswick Heads.
Warm, authentic and refined
An intimate, welcoming, little restaurant set near the river bank. All dishes were delicious, beautifully presented and layered with distinct flavours. The ox cheeks are a winner, melt-in-your-mouth yum. As is the flatbread with za’atar and whole roasted garlic cloves. We also loved the open kitchen layout, which adds transparency and makes the cooking part of the dining experience, as opposed to being hidden away from us diners. And it’s inspiring to watch chef Michael work his magic- next time we will try to book our seats at the kitchen bar. Can’t wait till our next visit!
