Inspired by the historic coffeehouses originating in London during the 17th century, Penny University café on Kingston’s Kennedy Street adopts the same name, encouraging a similar culture of sharing ideas over coffee in a modern day setting. Earthy and rustic inside, exposed red brick walls are adorned with lush greenery where visitors dine at timber tables, surrounded by the tantalising aromas of freshly baked treats and in-house roasted coffee beans. A menu of contemporary meals changes to suit seasonal produce as well as offering decadent dishes for those with a sweet tooth. Opt for a banoffee croissant French toast with crushed peanuts, vanilla whipped mascarpone, caramel popcorn, salted caramel and chocolate shavings, or visit later for lemon and parmesan gnocchi.
