About Mentmore and Morley
Sydneysiders looking for café fare with flair head down Mentmore Avenue in Rosebery to find visually stunning Mentmore and Morley. This corner café exudes a trendy vibe of a timber and black interior, offset by hanging greenery and bronze globe pendent lighting, while an outdoor courtyard area is ideal for soaking up rays on balmy days. There is a dash of Asian and Italian flavour on the Mod Oz menu – expect breaky tempters like a black bean and chorizo burrito, with scrambled eggs, avocado, salsa, sour cream, black vinegar dressing and micro herbs, or shakshuka eggs, stewed peppers, chorizo, labneh, coriander and sourdough. Join a lively lunch crowd for spicy pork ramen, bamboo shoots, water spinach, shallots, nori, egg and black garlic oil, or devour a lamb wrap with hummus and harissa.

Delightful breakfast
Somewhat hidden in the backstreet of the inner-south suburb of Rosebery is the friendly and welcoming Mentmore & Morley Café. On an early Saturday morning there are abundant parking spaces available around the café that provides outdoor and indoor seating (no cushions). From the café’s menu, offering substantial selection of hearty and tasty options, we selected Filipino Chicken Inasal and pancakes that came with aromatic coffee.
The breakfast, delivered by the highly attentive staff, was substantial and mouth-watering. The pancake with baked banana, bacon, and syrup was a delightful mix of sweet and savoury. Yet, the unchallenged highlight was the Filipino Chicken Inasal – a dish of exquisitely baked chicken, rice, a sunny-side-up egg, an appetizing dipping sauce, and green papaya relish (Achara). The Chicken Inasal fares well with the traditional Filipino breakfast of Longganisa. All in all, it was an utterly delightful morning breakfast at a superb but unpretentious café that is frequented by locals.
