Best Known For
Byron Bay Char-sui Pork Bao: tender braised sweet pork belly, special miso paste, coriander, carrot and peanuts.
Carrara locals don’t have far to travel to sample bao in the burbs at Kemuri on Pappas Way. This Gold Coast restaurant started as a night market stall at Miami Marketta, before moving into a bricks and mortar location, serving modern Japanese izakaya fare, handmade bao and gyoza, using the freshest local produce. There’s also Japanese tap beer, fine wine and sake at this hidden gem to accompany starters like tempura soft-shell prawns, curry aioli and leaf; or say arigatou to a deep-fried bug bao, with rocket, crunchy eschalot and chipotle mayonnaise. Perhaps a tender braised pork belly bowl tempts, with boiled egg, sansho Japanese peppers and steamed rice; or chicken katsu curry, with a side of tempura-battered vegetables, rice, nori and sweet dashi soy sauce.
