About Iku Yakitori Bar

Hidden behind an old wood-panelled exterior with bamboo growing against the wall, open the recycled timber door to find Iku Yakitori Bar on Gold Coast Highway in Burleigh Heads. This trendy late-night venue boasts an extensive range of rare Japanese whiskey, sake, shochu and spirits alongside a carefully selected wine list; in surrounds of softly glowing copper pendents, distressed timber and booth seating. From a weekly changing menu using seasonal ingredients, expect to delve into dishes like beef tataki – lightly seared beef tenderloin, Parmesan cheese, shredded chilli and mushroom ponzu sauce. Perhaps opt for one of the most popular yakitori skewers like tsukune chicken meatballs, served with tare and egg yolk dipping sauce, or dip a spoon into a steaming bowl of pork tonkotsu ramen.

Fresh, fun, sublime
What good fortune to land ourselves a table at Iku on Easter weekend. We sat in a beautiful teal velvet booth and loved the selection of funk and disco music playing in the bar. We went omakase with paired wines and sat back for a Japanese feast. The chef and staff happily catered for the allergic one among us, and the host and hostess gave wonderful, friendly and knowledgeable service, despite being run off their feet, and also dealing expertly with some unfortunate ugly behaviour from other guests. And I haven’t even got to the food yet- pork wrapped garlic and shallot, stir fried mustard greens, delicious miso broth, charred fat prawns, matcha rice with soft egg and pork, wagyu sirloin with fresh wasabi....omg it was all so delicious

Great food, good service ..
Although when we arrived for our confirmed booking we were bluntly told "We don't open until 5.30" and the group had to wait outside on the street for 15 minutes .. Not offered a seat / drink or even a bar spot despite the advertised trading time being open at 5pm and the email booking showing 5.15pm. *hhmmm
