Pastel de Nata: crisp, flaky crusts holding a creamy custard centre, blistered on top from the high heat of an oven, also known as Portuguese tarts.
About Casa Nata
Find Melbourne’s home of Portuguese tarts, Casa Nata, on High Street in Thornbury. The sister venue of the Windsor store, Casa Nata is the city’s first and only dedicated Portuguese tart café, bringing a love of traditional tart-making to the Melbourne foodie scene. Nestled in a beautiful, heritage-listed building with exposed brick, high ceilings and natural light, expect a minimalistic vibe with the kitchen encased in glass to keep it separate but still on display, while the ‘we love tarts’ neon sign adds a playful nod. Drop in and pair a Code Black coffee with a pastel de nata – puff pastry cups filled with creamy custard originally made by monks from the Jeronimos Monastery in Portugal in the 18th Century. Perhaps grab a take-home pack to treat the family to a delicious dessert.
