A few words from Ape Chilean Nikkei Restaurant

14-day dry-aged Hunter Valley lamb rack and housemade salsa verde. Sit down to traditional Japanese yakitori cooked over charcoal flames by skilled Chefs at Ape Yakitori Bar on Honeysuckle Drive in Newcastle city. Located on The Boardwalk, this stylish dining destination entices guests with tantalising aromas wafting from the open kitchen as you sip a Japanese whiskey and watch Chefs in action. With a name meaning ‘fire', Ape delivers à la carte, degustation and omakase menus sure to impress; say Arigatou to starters of hiramasa kingfish tiradito, pomegranate yuzu miso, pickled radish, ikura and cancha, or chicken karaage and kimchi mayo. For a main to remember try Wagyu flank steak tataki with sides of steamed rice and daikon apple slaw, or share crispy skin charcoal-grilled snapper, kelp and kombu crème, dashi ikura, chives and smoked burnt shallots.

Amazing
?????

Dining at APE is more than just a meal—it’s an experience. Every dish is beautifully crafted and full of flavour. The kingfish carpaccio was fresh and perfectly balanced, the yakitori was cooked over charcoal to perfection, and the wagyu was exceptional. The attentive service and relaxed atmosphere made the evening even more enjoyable. Easily one of Newcastle’s best restaurants and a place I’ll be recommending to everyone looking for a memorable dining experience.

Spectacular
I’ve dined across Australia, and honestly, there is nothing quite like APE. The combination of Chilean heritage, Japanese precision, and live charcoal cooking creates a dining experience that feels completely unique. Every dish has a purpose, every flavour tells a story, and the attention to detail is exceptional. This isn’t just a meal—it’s a culinary journey you won’t find anywhere else in the country. Newcastle should be proud to have a restaurant of this calibre.

amazing food and whiskey
The dry aged T-Bone is a must, the flavour is amazing. Can't go past the chocolate dessert either and if you love fine top-shelf whiskey - this is the place to go.
