Has been on my wish list for ages...and did not disappoint. These guys deserve the recognition.
The venue was romantic and intimate. The service was excellent, couldn't have asked for any better!!! The cheesecake was a highlight, best desert ever eaten!
Probably one of the best meals, Italian or otherwise, that I've ever had - both in and outside Italy. The skill and attention that went into each dish was obvious. Il Bacaro was the highlight of our trip to Melbourne.
Certainly one of Melbourne's best Italian restaurants,whilst not cheap it really is great value for money and worth paying extra for a memorable dining experience. waiters were attentive ,with impeccable timing.Their was not one dish we had that was not sensational. A truly memorable dining experience.
This is a small, intimate, busy place. With low lighting and great atmosphere. We love the place. I'm sure if the bar was half the size you could double the number of tables, It's huge!Service can vary a little, but is generally good - maybe depends on the waiter?Food has always been a highlight, but last time we dined here most dishes were VERY salty!! We did mention this to the waiter, but whether it got back to the kitchen is another matter! Will continue to dine here and would highly reccomend it, so long as the chef keeps an eye on that salt.
Translated as ‘God of wine’, Il Bacaro Cucina e Bar is the epitome of Venetian style in the heart of Melbourne. First opened in 1995, Il Bacaro is certainly no stranger to acclaim and continues to impress diners and critics alike. A long, horseshoe-shaped bar and intimate, low-lit dining room exude timeless Italian inspired style; polished hardwood floors, rich leather banquette seating and a Venetian air of allure and are exquisitely inviting. Sophisticated but subtle service makes for longer lunches and decadent dinners. Sample contemporary Italian classics such as Crudo di Ricciola del Pacifico – Kingfish crudo with zucchini flowers, grapefruit, chive oil or perhaps the Risotto Aparagi – risotto with asparagus, peas, broad beans, mint, Parmigiano Reggiano, finished with a panna cotta.
Calamari St.Andrea: shallow fried calamari, rocket and balsamic dressing.
As a Chef I love the passion, the adrenaline, and the feeling you get when diners leave happy.

5 stars. 10 out of 10. A+. 100% First Class Honours. How else can I convey our experience at Il Bacaro? Honestly, we were blown away by the quality of the food and service at Il Bacaro. Over the years, we've been lucky to have a few memorable dining experience - either in terms of luxe eats (e.g., Collins Kitchen and Melba - you just gotta love a lobster seafood buffet!) and establishment restaurants (e.g., Jacques Reymond and Stefano's) - but all of them fall short of what we experie...
