Bucket List
Somewhat disappointed with the whole ‘Birdsville Experience’. The road fr\ om Bedourie to Birdsville was mostly sealed, NICE by somehow detracted fr\ om our 'back of beyond' experience. There were a lot of new buildings in to\ wn including a large Visitors Information Center. The streets were sealed\ with curbing and guttering. The pub was painted pristine white. Curbing\ guttering and footpaths out the front, Memorabilia positioned strategica\ lly around the bar, but the bar area lacked warmth. Staff were mostly Eur\ opean Backpackers dressed in RM Williams shirts. Not a ‘G Day Mate’ to b\ e seen or heard. We stayed in a hotel room. I thought it pricey for a very basic room ($170 which did not include breakfast), clean except for cobweb over the bed. My husbands meal was OK but my beef schnitzel was obviously deep fried, burnt almost black and dry. It seems to be just a money spinner town now. We have seen more interesting pubs on our travels, but did have a great Camel Pie from the Bakery. Oh well, can now tick that off the ‘bucket list’.
