Take a drive through South East Queensland Country and you’ll discover mountains, valleys, lakes, vineyards and historic hinterland towns all within an easy drive from Brisbane City. The region can be broken up into three distinct areas. The Greater Brisbane Country – be swept in by the friendly hospitality at a B&B, take in the local colour at a country market, or stroll along historic streets. Toowoomba & the Darling Downs - situated on the crest of the Great Dividing Range, this area offers great outdoor recreational opportunities for visitors. And the Southern Downs & Granite Belt - Known as Queensland's Wine Capital and home to the towns of Stanthorp and Warwick. Stanthorpe has the reputation as being Queensland's coolest town. Frosty mornings and the odd snowfall during winter are not uncommon. And Warwick, known at 'Rose and Rodeo City' is renowned for, amongst other things, playing host to one of Australia's oldest & most famous rodeos held each year in October.
When to Visit South East Queensland Country
South East QLD Country boasts four distinct seasons. During the winter - cold frosty mornings are followed by cool, crisp clear days. The evenings are chilly, but perfect for curling up in front of roaring open fires with a glass of local red from one of the many wineries in the area. In Spring – the mornings are still cool but the day warms up quickly. There’s an abundance of apple and peach blossoms, new growth, fresh berries and the release of the new wine vintage. Throughout the Summer – the nights are cool however the days generally average around 25 Degrees Celcius. During the Autumn months – the days become cooler and the warmth of a fire starts to become inviting again.
Getting Around South East Queensland Country
The Toowoomba Airport lies a few kilometres west of the CBD. A five to ten minute drive will have you in the CBD ready to commence your business or to start exploring the city or the Downs. Rail services also link much of the region. Without question however the best way to explore the region is by car.
