In 1622 the crew of the Dutch ship Leeuwin made the first recorded sighting of the shores of King George Sound where Albany now stands. The oldest settlement in WA, Albany is an important port for the southern region of the State. Founded in 1826 just two years before Perth, the town has a number of historical buildings surviving from its colonial days. Nature has designed still older formations such as the Gap, Natural Bridge and the Blowholes.
